Our company was built on the ingenuity of a homebrewer with a passion for experimentation and a deep appreciation for tradition. Near the end of 2018, we released our 1,000th batch of beer and our first hazy double IPA. Since we had such a great time with that beer, we decided we didn't need a fancy number like 1,000 to justify playing around with hops, malt, and yeast like we were homebrewing again. A yeast strain designed to maximize the amount of fruit forward flavors and aromas produces this hazy, blond, double IPA packed with Dolcita, Tangiers, and Nectaron hops. Look for intense, sweet, fruity flavors and aromas of peach rings, pineapple candy, and orange cream all wrapped up in a sticky malty body with a soft mouthfeel.

Breaking news out of Polk County today! Aaron “The Brewer” Reif has teamed up with the notorious Confluence Gang to outfox the Feds once more! The crew vanished with a batch of Aaron’s Polk County Stout, tucked it into whiskey barrels, and laid low till the heat died down. Now it’s turning up in joints all over Iowa; thick, sticky, and smoother than a silver-tongued salesman. Sources say folks can’t get enough of its decadent chocolate punch and creamy vanilla finish. The law calls it contraband. The people call it Bootlegger’s Reserve. Better get yours before the revenuers do!

Many Iowans are descendants from German immigrants so it’s fitting that we make a Bock, one of the most famous German beers. In the 18th century, during their long Lenten fast, when they could drink but not eat, monks brewed rich, bready bock beers for sustenance. Our bock came out big, burly, and chewy, hence the name, ChewBOCKa. This beast of a beer is made with a Munich malt base and German hops for a rich, full-bodied yet balanced, malty sweetness. A long, cool lagering period mellows this deep brown beer and brings flavors of toasted brown bread, as well as a hint of chocolate. Our ChewBOCKa embodies a filling, sustaining Bock beer. The beer in early 19th-century Plzen was bad. So bad that the angry citizenry dumped 36 barrels of the local wheat ale in the streets in protest. They could import Bavarian lagers, but good locally made beer was just as important to the peoples of Plzen then as it is to us today, so they sent for help. They sent an architect to Munich to learn brewery design, and he returned to construct a state-of-the-art brewery, including a new malthouse with the ability to produce newer, light colored malt. He also returned with Bavarian-trained brewer, Josef Groll. By 1842, Groll unveiled his “Pilsner,” and the rest is history. The light colored, crisp, clean lager has become the most popular beer style across the globe. Confluence Pilsner is our faithful take on this timeless and perfect style, brewed with authentic German malt and hops. This golden-hued elixir is clean and refreshing, with cracker malt character, a touch of floral bite from Noble hops, and a crisp finish. It’s trafficked by a cloaked and mysterious black figure who, since time immemorial, has conveyed souls from one bank to the other, pausing only occasionally to refresh his own weary spirit. Confluence Brewing Company is nestled just beyond the tree line south of Gray's Lake, so it seems only proper to name a beer for this fantastic local park. Most have heard the tale of the Loch Ness Monster, but we have an ale just as tall... Our Gray's Lake Nessie gains its characteristic richness and deep mahogany color from a monstrous two hour boil. The addition of East Kent Golding hops balances the sweetness and a cool fermentation period with proper Scottish ale yeast calms our beloved Nessie from terrifying tale to friendly legend. Imogene, Iowa, is quintessential small-town Iowa - a tiny community founded by an Irish immigrant group supporting the patchwork of farms that surrounded it. Our Imogene Red is a tribute to the hundreds of small towns that dot our beloved state. This beer was created by head brewer, John Martin, in memory of his grandmother Frances Jane Dempsey Martin, who lived all 98 of her years in and around Imogene. Made with English Maris Otter and crystal malts, East Kent Golding hops, and Irish ale yeast, Imogene Red has the color, clarity, aroma, and flavor of a classic Irish ale. Irish reds are typically a smooth favorite for malty beer fans. Please join us in raising a pint in memory of Grandma Martin and in tribute to small-town Iowa.

We now know that around 1000 AD in Goslar, in present day Germany, lactic producing bacteria from the grain and air combined with the salinity of their local water source to help the brewers produce a tart, refreshing brew that we call Gose (Go-zuh). In conjuring up a plan for this beer, we honored that natural sort of magic by culturing lactobacillus organically from our grain to quickly sour a whole batch of beer.
